The Pink Ribbon Society referred the Adelmann family to Lakeville Rotary for helping their son and daughter-in-law who are both military veterans.
Kerry and Tim Adelmann, parents of son Keegan who suffered a TBI (traumatic brain injury) from a motorcycle crash in 2015, is completely dependent (quadriplegic) on his wife Amy and parents for everything.
Rotary's service project was to finish trimming out their Lakeville home basement so Keegan, Amy and their 3 kids can move downstairs to their own rooms. This included Keegan's bedroom with a full length ceiling hoist. The hoist assists in moving him to and from bed, into a wheelchair or gurney for bathing, physical therapy, etc. and also quickly getting Keegan out of his bedroom window in the event of a fire.
The first 2 days of the basement finishing project were Friday 12/4 afternoon and all day Saturday 12/5. A big thank you to the following bolded "service above self" volunteers!
Amy Erkenbrack, Sheila Longie and Nancy Savstrom for sharing their time and paint priming skills for the window and door trim. We thought it was just painting on Friday, but turned out to be priming first, then painting.
Thankfully, Nancy stayed late Friday and we were able to also paint the window and door trim for installation the next day!.
A big thank you to Julie Christian who learned we were behind and volunteered coming first thing Saturday morning to paint the base trim while Gordy Erickson, Curt Savstrom and Jim Christian worked installing the window and door trim. It was a blessing having Julie paint the base early giving the paint some time to dry for us to install it in the afternoon.
There were plenty of challenges getting the trim to fit well due to window and door jambs not being flush with the sheetrock. Just ask Gordy about what he had to do!
On Sunday 12/6 (day 3) Gordy and Jim Christian finished the base installation.
