District 5960 Rotarians and Rotaractors, the District 5960 Mid-Term is Saturday, January 11, 2020, at the Anderson Center on the campus of Hamline University. It's an exciting time to connect with other District Rotarians and Rotaractors to look back and look ahead as we start a new decade of "Connecting the World," inspiring others, and making a positive difference in our communities and the world!

We have a great lineup for this FREE event with a variety of topics and speakers, time to learn, time to interact, and capped off with some post-holiday socializing! We will offer light breakfast items and a full lunch buffet. Bring a fellow Rotarian or Rotaractor, or two, with you. Sign up before the clock strikes midnight on 12/31/19 for a chance to win some great prizes!

Anthony Mains and K-9 Dutchie
MN State Trooper Anthony Mains and K-9 Dutchie

Watch meeting on Facebook Live - Click Here
MN State Trooper Mains shared some general information on the Minnesota State Patrol K-9 unit and specifically his K-9 Dutchie a male Dutch Shepherd from Holland who is trained to detect the odor of narcotics. Trooper Mains shared that the State K-9 dogs are not trained in other typical police functions such as apprehension or tracking but are mainly used for narcotics.

Trooper Mains showed video clips of Dutchie assisting with traffic stops where he has helped in over 320 field deployments since last January. The value of the K-9 is that they can check where drugs are believed to be hidden inside houses or other structures finding narcotics concealed that otherwise would be missed.

Trooper Mains works with Dutchie on a regular basis to maintain his high level of performance  which is needed for the job. The meeting ended with Trooper Mains and Dutchie giving a demonstration of his work.
