Tribal Sovereignty
Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC) Secretary/Treasurer Rebecca Crooks-Stratton

Tribal sovereignty means that tribes have an inherent authority to govern themselves. During this session, SMSC Secretary/Treasurer Crooks-Stratton will explore the importance of sovereignty and walk attendees through 200 years of federal Indian policy and how it has impacted tribal nations. She will also cover economic development in Native American communities and provide present-day examples of how tribes like the SMSC work alongside federal, state and local governments on shared priorities.

Mike Cooper, Gorden Erickson
Mike Cooper presented about the Lakeville Community-Wide Blood Drive. We collected 265 units of blood, which is the largest collection in a day in the history of
Memorial Blood Centers. Of those, 59 were first time donors.

Special thanks to all the organizations who participated and especially Lakeville North and South teachers and students.
Congratulations to Mike Cooper on receiving the Lifetime Achievement award for over 30 years of work planning blood drives. We appreciate your continued dedication!
