Rotary’s Legacy and the Challenge of Climate Change
A talk by Alan Anderson

Rotary has had a significant impact in the world, helping mothers and children, fighting diseases like polio, securing clean water sources, and much more.  The world’s climate scientists are telling us that climate change is beginning to put some of these achievements at risk, and if unchecked, climate change will undo much of Rotary’s good work in the world.

What does the science say?  What can Rotarians do to combat climate change?  We’ll discuss these questions and more, with time for your questions.

Rotary Students of the Month
Each month of the school year, the Lakeville Rotary Club recognizes students of the senior class who demonstrate “Service Above Self”.

For the month of February Lakeville North High School has chosen Nathan Hyden as the February Rotary Student of the Month. Nathan has been chosen due to a high GPA and class rank at Lakeville North High School.  Nathan is also very involved in extracurricular activities as well as community service.  At Lakeville North, Nathan is the captain of the soccer team, on the hockey team, a member of DECA.  He is a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Outside Lakeville North High School, Nathan is on the Soccer club traveling team and off season hockey.  Nathan is a member of Hosanna Church weekly worship and small group discussions.  Also at Hosanna he is a community garden worker, a volunteer for the church food drive and a Thanksgiving dinner server.  Nathan is in the Civil Air Patrol, a transport pool volunteer for Fairview Ridges Hospital, and has worked at Feed My Starving Children.  Nathan volunteers as a Soccer Tots Coach.  Nathan has been to the Dominican Republic as a service volunteer.  In his free time, he enjoys golf, fishing and hiking.

Nathan’s parents are William and Dinah Hyden and his Dean is Dan McNulty.

For the month of February Reece English has been chosen for the Rotary Student of the Month from Lakeville South High School.

Reece English is an all-around great person. Reece is a positive role model, dedicated athlete, and a distinguished scholar. While many seniors are keeping a lighter academic workload their last year of high school, Reece continues to push himself by enrolling in four AP classes. Reece has a hunger for knowledge and always looks to improve himself in the classroom. Teachers comment on his positive attitude and desire to learn. On the athletic field, Reece's coaches rave about his strong work ethic and leadership skills. Recently, Reece was named the baseball captain for this upcoming season. After high school, Reece has a desire to serve his country and is hoping to get accepted into West Point Academy. With a 4.20 GPA and a 29 ACT score, Reece has a very good chance of being admitted. I have no doubt Reece will touch many lives after high school and make a positive impact wherever he goes. Congratulations to Lakeville South High School's Rotary Student of the Month Reece English.

Reece’s Parents – Amy and Bruce English and his Dean is Shaun Murphy.
