Rotary Students of the Month-January
Hannah Grillo, John van Dyke

JANUARY 2018 ROTARY STUDENTS OF THE MONTH

Each month of the school year, the Lakeville Rotary Club recognizes students of the senior class who demonstrate “Service Above Self”.

For the month of January

John H. van Dyke to be recognized as the LSHS Rotary Student of the Month.  John is an outstanding student and athlete at Lakeville South High School.  He consistently demonstrates strength in excellence, commitment, determination, and self-advocacy.

John plans to earn a degree in Aerospace Engineering through the Naval Academy. He has demonstrated she is college ready by maintaining a GPA of 4.3, and successfully completing many college prep courses, such as AP Language, AP European History, AP Chemistry, and AP Calculus.  He continues to challenge himself his senior year by selecting courses such as AP Literature, AP Physics, AP Statistics, AP Calculus BC, and AP Macroeconomics.

John van Dyke has the ability to manage a very rigorous course load, maintain a high GPA and be involved in many activities.  He is a Cross Country runner, where he was selected by his peers to be a captain, and he participates in Track and Field. He achieved his Eagle Scout rank this fall, and his Eagle Project was an Archery course he developed.  In addition, he was inducted in the Order of the Arrow (the honor society of scouting).  John is a member of our National Honor Society, where he has served many volunteer hours as a Boy Scout leader and middle school retreats.  Finally, he finds time to work, for example at Dairy Queen.

John H. van Dyke is an outstanding student athlete at LSHS.  He has made a positive impact here and he will be a positive asset to ant program he chooses.  I am honored to recommend him as our LSHS Rotary Student of the Month.

Lakeville North will recognize Hannah Grillo has been chosen as the Lakeville North High School Rotary Student of the Month for January.  Hannah’s parents are Paul Grillo & Katie Ashland and Michelle Grillo & Tim Girdner.  Hannah’s Dean is Dan McNulty.

Hannah has been chosen due to her volunteer work at school and outside of school.  At Lakeville North High School, Hannah is the Best Buddies Club President, a member of DECA Business Club.  She is a student aide in a Special Education classroom.  Hannah maintains a high GPA as well.

Outside Lakeville North High School, Hannah tutor’s elementary students, is a member of Special Olympics Board of Directors, volunteers at Fairview Ridges Hospital and connecting youth with faith mentor.
