New Member - Michael Baumann
Tom Vonhof , Michael Baumann

Tom Vonhof inducted our returning member Michael Baumann, Superintendent at Lakeville Area Public Schools ISD 194, into Lakeville Rotary today. Michael’s sponsor is Judy Keliher. Michael is a retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army and has spent the last nine years in the St. Paul Public Schools.

He is an Operation Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom veteran. In Baghdad, he commanded an Army battalion task force in the First Cavalry Division from 2004-2005.  Many of the long time Lakeville Rotarians might remember the club meeting where Michael introduced us to his friend, Fadi M. Fadhil “Freddie,” an Iraqi interpreter, and helped Fadhil gain political asylum in the United States in 2006.

Michael and his wife Shelly have lived in Lakeville since 2005 and have one son, a senior at Farmington High School.

Rotary Students of the Month-September 2017
Cheryl Meger, Lauren Davis, Kayla Severson, Paul Donner

Each month of the school year, the Lakeville Rotary Club recognizes students of the senior class who demonstrate “Service Above Self”.
Lakeville North High School has chosen Lauren Davis has been chosen as the Rotary Student of the Month for September from Lakeville North High School.   Lauren has been chosen due to her high academics and strong leadership both at Lakeville North High School and outside of school.  Lauren maintains a high GPA and is currently ranked 3 in her class of 462.

At Lakeville North High School, Lauren is the captain of the Speech Team, she is the Treasurer of Student Council, a Senior Class Officer, a member of National Honor Society and the Marching Band.  Some awards Lauren has received are AP Scholar with Distinction, President’s Volunteer Service Award – Bronze, Harvard Prize Book Award.

For the month of May Kayla Severson will be recognized as the Lakeville South Rotary Student of the Month. Kayla is an outstanding student at Lakeville South High School.  She consistently demonstrates strength in excellence, commitment, and determination.

Kayla hopes to earn a degree in college that is connected Energy Resources and Writing. She has demonstrated she is college ready by maintaining a GPA that is higher than any student I have ever worked with.  She has successfully completed many college prep courses, such as AP Language, AP World History, AP Physics, and AP Calculus.  She continues to challenge herself her senior year by selecting courses such as AP Literature, AP Physics II, AP Computers, and AP Macroeconomics.  Kayla has the ability balance a rigorous course load, participate in many activities, and be a very active volunteer in our community.

Kayla’s positive attitude and her willingness to advocate for herself are very impressive.  By her actions, it is clear she is a positive leader through her commitment to an intense work ethic. She participates in Math League, Painting, and has established herself as a Published Author.   She wrote the book ‘Nature’s First Gem Is Green’. During her free time, she volunteers and works at Medtronic, where she is currently interning.

Kayla Severson is an outstanding student and individual.  She has made a positive impact at LSHS and I am convinced she will make a positive impact on any program she becomes involved in.

Kayla’s parents are Greg and Rose Severson and her Dean is Paul Donner.
