Tom Vonhof introduced our speaker, Tim Leslie,  Dakota County Sheriff.
 
Sheriff Leslie shared the 2015-2016 Accomplishments and Goals of the Dakota County Sheriff’s department.
 
  • New to Dakota County is the Added Point of Entry screening at Northern and Western Service Centers
  • Shared information on the Electronic Crimes Task Force.  Did you Know that the first thing at crime scene or accident is that the law enforcement will check the cell phone to track activity.
  • $200,000 Grant Award to County from the for Violence Against Women Grant Act.
  • Sheriff’s Citizen Advisory Council– meets bi-monthly to share ideas and communicate with the community.
  • Answered questions on Gun Control and Permit to carry law
  • In 2015-2860 new gun permits were received by the department and only 1% of these applications were denied.
  • Watching the growing trend of more women in the jails. ( Due to Meth and Heroin)
  • The Sheriff’s department is reaching out to Communities through Community Meetings and online survey tools.
     
    LOOKING FORWARD
  • Sheriff Leslie is planning on establishing a TRIAD Chapter in Dakota – Partnering with seniors to provide education and resources to reduce victimization.
  • Meeting with local government leaders in order to provide an overview of the duties and responsibilities of the sheriff’s office.
  • Technology on the Horizon for 2016 – License plates readers.
    Department has received approval for adding them to the Hastings Parking Lot.
  • Drones and Body Cameras.
